Course 1: Introduction to Airport Stormwater Training consists of four video lessons that provide the basics of the what, why, where, and how of airport stormwater management including the regulations, common terms, a description of stormwater permits, and the regulatory discharge limits associated with the permit(s). This course was prepared for training airport staff, tenants, and construction contractors.

Course 2: Planning & Design of Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) consists of five video lessons that describe the processes used to determine what types of stormwater controls are needed and to select the right combination of BMPs from the available “toolbox.” Five categories of BMPs are defined and examples are presented within each category. This course was prepared for airport staff responsible for airport stormwater BMPs.

Course 3: Airport Stormwater Plans, Inspections, & Reporting consists of four video lessons that discuss the three main types of stormwater plans airports are required to implement for permit compliance. This course was prepared for airport staff responsible for airport stormwater plan design and implementation.

Course 4: Managing Deicing Runoff consists of two video lessons that present specialized information regarding how aircraft and airfield deicing activities are conducted: why deicers are a concern in stormwater; BMPs available for minimizing, containing, and treating or disposing of deicing runoff; and planning strategies for developing a holistic deicing runoff management program. This course is for airport staff responsible for planning and implementing deicing procedures.

Course 5: Stormwater Sampling & Monitoring consists of four video lessons that explain different types of sampling and monitoring activities, sample collection and handling practices, basics of using monitoring instrumentation, laboratory analyses, basic data review and interpretation, and reporting practices. The course is for airport or contractor staff who are responsible for conducting stormwater monitoring to comply with NPDES stormwater permit requirements. Note: Because airports are so varied in size and configuration, monitoring programs are tailored to each facility’s requirements. Therefore, you will need to locate and refer to specific permit or regulatory requirements that apply to your airport.

Course 6: Advanced Deicing Runoff Management should be taken after completing Course 4: Managing Deicing Runoff first. The advanced course is about one hour of video instruction, divided into three lessons.
