This document describes Sector S-specific requirements in the Multi-sector General Permit for stormwater discharges associated with industrial activity.
This fact sheet specifically discusses stormwater discharges from airports, airport terminals, airline carriers, and establishments as defined by Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Major Group 45. Facilities and products in this group fall under the following categories, all of which require coverage under an industrial stormwater permit:
- Servicing, repairing, or maintaining aircraft and ground vehicles
- Equipment cleaning and maintenance (including vehicle and equipment rehabilitation mechanical repairs, painting, fueling, lubrication)
- Deicing/anti-icing operations which conduct the above described activities
At an airport, all tenants regulated by the industrial stormwater permit are required to obtain separate industrial stormwater permit coverage. Each facility receiving industrial stormwater permit coverage must create a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan that covers all applicable industrial activities being conducted for or by the facility.
ACRP Research Report 14: Deicing Planning Guidelines and Practices for Stormwater Management Systems explores a wide array of practices designed to provide for the practical, cost-effective control of runoff from aircraft and airfield deicing and anti-icing operations. Detailed operational practices were published as a collection of fact sheets.
This Inspection Report Template was designed to assist you in preparing inspection reports for EPA’s 2012 Construction General Permit (CGP). If you are covered under the 2012 CGP, this template will enable you to create an inspection report form that is customized to the specific circumstances of your project and that complies with the minimum reporting requirements of Part 4.1.7 of the permit. Note that the use of this form is optional; you may use your own inspection report form provided it includes the minimum information required in Part 4.1.7 of the CGP. If you are covered under a state CGP, this template may be helpful in developing a form that can be used for that permit; however, it will need to be modified to meet the specific requirements of that permit. If your permitting authority requires you to use a specific inspection report form, you should not use this form.
ACRP Web-Only Document 8: Alternative Aircraft Anti-icing Formulations with Reduced Aquatic Toxicity and Biochemical Oxygen Demand explores the aquatic toxicity and biological oxygen demand state of the art, components, and promising alternative formulations of deicing and anti-icing products. The document also examines the performance; efficiency; material compatibility; and environmental, operational, and safety impacts of alternative formulations and components as well as the fate and transport of deicing and anti-icing formulation components and their degradation products.
FAA recommends the standards and recommendations in this Advisory Circular (AC) for use in the design of aircraft deicing facilities. In general, use of this AC is not mandatory. The standards and recommendations contained in this AC may be used by certificated airports to satisfy specific requirements of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 139, Certification of Airports, Subparts C (Airport Certification Manual) and D (Operations). Use of this AC is mandatory for all projects funded with federal grant monies through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and/or with revenue from the Passenger Facility Charges (PFC) Program.
This FAA advisory circular (AC) provides guidance to assist airport operators in developing a snow and ice control plan, conducting and reporting runway friction surveys, and establishing snow removal and control procedures.
These 11 fact sheets address the treatment technologies referenced in ACRP Report 99: Guidance for Treatment of Airport Stormwater Containing Deicers. The fact sheets cover activated sludge, aerated gravel beds, aerated lagoons, anaerobic fluidized bed reactors, distillation; mechanical vapor recompression, moving bed biofilm reactors, passive facultative treatment systems, public wastewater treatment systems, private recycling systems, and reverse osmosis.
