Chapter 7 | Commercial Service—Attracting Airlines and Transitioning to Airline Service
While most small airports do not or will not handle commercial passenger service, for those that do, it is an important element of their operations. This chapter of ACRP Research Report 16: Guidebook for Managing Small Airports, 2nd edition focuses on the elements unique to small airport with airline service. The section on transitioning to commercial service addresses the challenges a small airport faces when it has an opportunity to transition to airline service as well as the activities and requirements related to accommodating airline service. Additional sections of the chapter focus on key air service-related issues including airline use service agreements, customer service enhancement, air service development, essential air service, common-use facilities, passenger facility and customer facility charge funding sources, and planning for irregular operations.
