4.2 NOTAM Management

Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) provide essential information to airport users concerned with flight and airport operations by providing timely information about unanticipated or temporary changes to components of, or hazards in, the National Airspace System and by providing information that becomes available too late to publicize in the associated aeronautical charts and related publications, such as the chart supplement.

FAA Advisory Circular 150/5200-28, Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) for Airport Operators
Provides guidance on using the NOTAM system for reporting airport advisory facilities changes or outages and for utilizing the runway condition assessment matrix for airport condition reporting. This advisory circular prescribes procedures used to describe, format, and disseminate information on unanticipated or temporary changes to components of, or hazards in, the National Airspace System.

ACRP Synthesis 75: Airport Advisories at Non-Towered Airports
Documents the manner in which non-towered airports provide advisories to pilots regarding winds, traffic, and runways in use. Unlike with pilot advisories, there is little guidance available for airport operators in providing airport advisories. The objective of this synthesis report is to aggregate available guidance on this topic and document information from non-towered airports with at least 50,000 annual aircraft operations. It includes a literature review and a telephone interview survey of 165 non-towered airports. Six case examples are included, documenting effective airport advisory programs in place at airports.
