Step 6: Define Your Stakeholders
Summary
One of the critical steps in planning for integrating social media with emergency management (SMEM) is defining your key stakeholders. Who do you need to bring to the table in order to set your vision, objectives, and desired level of social media (SM) integration? If your emergency management (EM) program has already identified stakeholders and mutual aid partners, you have a head start here; nevertheless, you should take this opportunity to reassess the stakeholders you may need involved in building your SMEM program.
This step is broken into the following two components:
- The Airport Community: the airport community includes all stakeholders who are located at the airport
- The Whole Community: the whole community is the set of stakeholders beyond the airport community that you should include in your planning efforts
As you evaluate your stakeholders, you can use the worksheet titled, “Stakeholder Identification” located within the “SMEM Program Worksheets” file. If you have not yet downloaded this file, click the link below.
The overarching goal of this step is to bring all potentially impacted stakeholders together to initiate collaboration and break down silos. Each stakeholder should regard themselves as part of a larger team.
