The 21st century airport terminal is a passenger service and technology hub that is in constant motion. Within the terminal various activities and convenience services are provided to travelers who have increasing needs for less stressful and more satisfying traveling experiences. Terminal spaces must be designed to function more efficiently and serve travelers more effectively. This requires the airport terminals to be optimized in their design and performance as well as integrated as seamlessly as possible with the processes that are carried out in the day-to-day functions of the terminal.
To help ensure a consistent design approach for the integration of each terminal project into the Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, this Terminal Design Guidelines Manual or “Terminal DGM” has been developed. The document’s intent is to help bring each design professional’s ideas into the fabric of the airport which in and of itself represents its own unique regional features and local culture through the adopted conceptual design statement of “your Portal to Paradise” and other airport branding efforts. It is a resource that helps to clearly outline the terminal design parameters. It serves as a unifying document for modernization projects within the airport terminals and their design and performance optimization.
