ACRP Synthesis 24: Strategies and Financing Opportunities for Airport Environmental Programs

Abstract

This synthesis study provides a comprehensive summary of funding opportunities and strategies available to airports to accomplish their environmental programs and objectives. The federal grants.gov website and individual state and territorial government websites were reviewed, as well as specific examples of the successful pursuit of airport environmental funding. Additional effort was made in this study to identify funding opportunities from private sources, including both for-profit and nonprofit entities. The primary method of research was an intensive review of federal and state government websites. For federal funding opportunities other than FAA programs, grants.gov was the primary source of information. Review of this website was supplemented by research on individual agency websites. When limited information was available, information was obtained from the individuals listed as program contacts. In addition, interviews were conducted with airport staff to obtain information on their experiences with non-FAA financing opportunities, as well as the Voluntary Airport Low Emissions program.
