ACRP Report
2010
ACRP Report 38 provides a comprehensive description of the regulations, standards, evaluation criteria, and processes designed to protect the airspace surrounding airports. Aviation practitioners, local planning and zoning agencies, and developers need to understand and apply the appropriate airspace design and evaluation criteria to ensure a safe operating environment for aircraft as well as to maintain airport operational flexibility and reliability, without unduly restricting desirable building development and attendant economic growth in the surrounding community.
FAA Order
2018
This order prescribes standardized methods for designing and evaluating instrument flight procedures (IFPs) for all phases of flight in the United States and its territories. It is to be used by all personnel responsible for the preparation, approval, and promulgation of IFPs. These criteria are predicated on normal aircraft operations and performance.
FAA Advisory Circular
2019
This advisory circular (AC) explains the specifications for establishing geodetic control on or near an airport. It also describes how to submit the information to the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) for approval and inclusion in the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS), in support of aeronautical information surveys.
FAA Advisory Circular
2017
This advisory circular (AC) provides guidance regarding the use of remote sensing technologies in the collection of data describing the physical infrastructure of an airport. This AC describes the acceptable uses and standards for the use of different remote sensing technologies in the data collection process. In general, the use of this AC is not mandatory. However, the use of this AC is mandatory for all projects funded through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) or Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) Program.
FAA Advisory Circular
2014
This advisory circular (AC) provides the specifications for the collection of airport data for the FAA Airport Surveying Geographic Information System (GIS) Program. It also explains how to submit data to the FAA, which will forward the safety-critical data to the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) for independent verification and validation. The standards covered in this document provide critical information for the operation and safety of the National Airspace System (NAS) and are classified as critical by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
FAA Order
2020
This order provides guidance to all FAA personnel for the administration and accomplishment of the FAA Flight Procedures and Airspace Program. Additionally, this order provides guidance for the military and other government agencies to use when interacting with the FAA regarding instrument flight procedures.
ACRP Report 150 Nextgen for Airports
2016
ACRP Report 150 is a multivolume series designed to provide airports, airport consultants, and other stakeholders with the information they need to understand and efficiently implement NextGen in a way that achieves an optimal balance of stakeholder needs. Volume 1 provides comprehensive information concerning performance-based navigation presented in an understandable, usable, and accessible format for airport operators, planners, managers, and other appropriate stakeholders.
Volume 2 focuses on how airports can effectively engage stakeholders in the process of implementing NextGen. Stakeholder groups include various divisions and offices within the FAA, airlines and other operators of aircraft at the airport, community members or their representatives, the media, and others.
Volume 3 explains what NextGen is, what it does, the changes it brings, and the advantages it gives aviation users and providers. It also identifies the ways in which NextGen could affect airports. Moreover, because NextGen is a complex and ever-changing subject, this guide highlights major NextGen programs focusing on near-term FAA programs, procedures, and technologies, while describing long-term planning (beyond 5 years) in more general terms.
Volume 4 provides information for airport operators on the creation, maintenance, and use of spatial data that is generated as a result of NextGen initiatives. The data that airports have to or will have to produce is used in a variety of ways to advance some of the NextGen programs. The report identifies benefits to airports from the spatial data that is required or produced from NextGen programs, not all of which are obvious, as well as financial and legal considerations.
ACRP Report 150 Nextgen for Airports
2017
ACRP Report 150 is a multivolume series designed to provide airports, airport consultants, and other stakeholders with the information they need to understand and efficiently implement NextGen in a way that achieves an optimal balance of stakeholder needs. Volume 5 provides information to help airport industry practitioners understand and incorporate NextGen capabilities into their planning efforts for all categories of airports. This report will be a valuable resource to airport planning practitioners who would like to ensure that airport facilities are designed in a manner that not only accommodate NextGen but also take full advantage of its potential benefits.
ACRP Report
2010
ACRP Report 39 presents recommended guidelines for the collection and use of geospatially referenced data for airfield pavement management. The guidelines provide a data schema, data collection methods, data quality requirements, and other relevant information required for developing specifications and standards for integrating geospatial data into pavement management systems. The material contained in the report should be of immediate interest to airport professionals, consultants, and others involved in the management of airfield pavements.
ACRP Report
2013
ACRP Report 88 is designed to help airports identify needs and assess current capabilities with respect to using geographical information systems (GIS) in emergency management (EM). The report discusses GIS and EM and provides a roadmap for airports to move from their current state of GIS implementation (even if they do not yet have any form of GIS) to the point of integrating into EM and coordinating with mutual aid partners. The report contains a CD-ROM with case studies and key lessons learned from airports that have integrated GIS into EM.
FAA Engineering Brief
2017
Engineering Brief (EB) 95 provides clarification and additional guidance to airports, Airport District Offices (ADOs), and architectural and engineering companies regarding updated PAPI and VGSI flight check inspection criteria defined in the FAA Order 8200.ID.
ACRP General Cover
2017
TRB conducted a webinar that features research conducted by ACRP on the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). NextGen refers to federal programs that are designed to modernize the national airspace system (NAS). ACRP's NextGen initiative aims to inform airport operators about some of these programs and how the enabling practices, data, and technologies resulting from them will affect airports. This webinar provided an overview of NextGen and an introduction to the last three volumes of ACRP Report 150: NextGen for Airports, namely Volume 3: Resources for Airports, Volume 4: Leveraging NextGen Spatial Data to Benefit Airports: Guidebook, and Volume 5: Airport Planning and Development.
