ACRP Synthesis 12 examines factors affecting safe winter operations and the prevention of runway incursions by airport snow removal equipment operators.

ACRP Synthesis 77 compiles information about airport sustainability practices and adds them to the Sustainable Aviation Guidance Alliance (SAGA) website. The SAGA website was developed to help airport operators develop sustainability programs and provide guidelines to those who have new data to input. The website contains entries on more than 900 sustainability practices that were developed by SAGA's initial stakeholder group.

ACRP Report 16, second edition, is designed to help airport practitioners, owners, operators, managers, and policymakers of small airports, who may have varying degrees of experience and backgrounds, to fulfill their responsibilities in such areas as financial management, oversight of contracts and leases, safety and security, noise impacts, community relations, compliance with federal and state obligations, facility maintenance, and capital improvements. The first edition has been edited and reformatted for currency, relevance, and usability and updated with additional information and new subject areas (e.g., unmanned aircraft systems, geographic information systems, digital notices to airmen, social media, and federal and state obligations). Also, hyperlinks to many of the documents and resources mentioned in this report, such as ACRP publications, industry sources, and sample checklists, have been collected into ACRP WebResource 6: Resources for Managing Small Airports.

ACRP Report 81 identifies the relevant factors in defining a winter design storm for use in sizing airport deicing runoff management systems and components. The report also provides a decision support tool for identifying an appropriate winter design storm for an airport-specific project; a review of regulations as they pertain to deicing runoff; and suggestions for target levels of service, including the acceptable level of risk of the designed system not meeting performance standards.

ACRP Research Report 72, second edition, provides a step-by-step process for identifying, evaluating, and selecting methods to monitor stormwater that is subject to runoff containing deicing materials. The report addresses identifying the parameters to be monitored and discusses the appropriateness of various monitoring methods and instrument types to meet an airport's specific needs. The report also provides recommendations for setup, operation, and maintenance of each monitoring method.

ACRP Synthesis 6 explores how airports chemically treat their pavements to mitigate snow and ice, and the chemicals used. The report also examines the effects of pavement deicing products on aircraft and airfield infrastructure and highlights knowledge gaps in the subject.

TRB conducted a webinar that featured research conducted by ACRP on safety and financial concerns involving airport winter operations. Webinar presenters discussed best practices and practical applications to help airport stakeholders determine the level of investment in winter operations and safety implications.
