Cross-sectional correlational design

« Back to Glossary Index

A study design where the study variables are assessed at a single point in time. It does not allow for assessing whether a treatment or intervention caused a change in behavior or in another study outcome. The treatment or intervention can only be said to be associated with behavior or other study outcomes. Even a strong association is insufficient evidence to permit any cause-effect statements or inferences pertaining to causation.
