Part 4: Implement

With a roadmap and implementation plan in place, you are ready to transition from planning to action. As you implement your planned initiatives, there are key elements that will help to ensure success, specifically in the areas of project definition, requirements development, and procurement and implementation of supporting systems. Chapters 7 and 8 provide valuable considerations for each of these areas, which apply to the implementation of many kinds of systems and initiatives. Treat these chapters as evergreen content to be referenced during each of your common use implementation processes.

In addition to these chapters, revisit the following sections of ACRP Report 30: Reference Guide on Understanding Common Use at Airports, which includes planning guidance to assist in the implementation of common use solutions. The following links take you to sections of this reference guide on the National Academies Press website.

  • Chapter 3: Analysis and Implementation Considerations. This section addresses the following major operational areas:
    • Planning
    • Design and Construction
    • Terminal Operations
    • Airside Operations
    • Facilities Maintenance
    • Business Considerations
    • Technology
  • Chapter 4: Business Value Assessment. This section approaches common use-related cost-benefit issues with the following methodology:
    • Establishing an understanding of cost considerations by common use area.
    • Breaking down specific benefits by business driver.
    • Providing self-assessment tools to enable airports to assess whether an airport is a candidate for common use.
