Emergency Planning and Response
Airports routinely store and handle numerous types of chemicals, oils, and other hazardous and non-hazardous substances that are subject to emergency planning and response regulations. Most emergency planning and response regulations were promulgated in response to specific incidents that resulted in a significant loss of human life or extensive environmental damage. Regardless of the quantity of chemicals, oils, or other regulated substances present, their use, handling and storage can pose a potential threat to human health and the environment.
Chapter 4, Emergency Planning and Response of ACRP Report 43 Guidebook of Practices for Improving Environmental Performance at Small Airports provides additional information and summarizes regulatory guidance associated with the following topics related to emergency planning and response at airports:
- Community Emergency Planning, Storage, and Release Reporting
- Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure
